Report: McCartney says he's the political Beatle
Dec. 14, 2008, 8:33 AM EST
LONDON (AP) -- Paul McCartney claims that he was the real politicized figure in The Beatles, not John Lennon, according to an interview published Sunday.

McCartney was quoted as saying it was he who first raised concerns over the Vietnam war within the group and advocated their anti-war stance.
Fans have long regarded Lennon, who wrote songs such as "Revolution" and — in later years — "Give Peace a Chance," as the group's authentic political voice.
But McCartney claimed that his meeting with philosopher Bertrand Russell in the mid-1960s sparked his own — and eventually Lennon's — curiosity about world affairs.
Following his talk with Russell, McCartney said he told "the guys, particularly John (Lennon), about this meeting and saying what a bad war this was," The Sunday Times quoted McCartney as saying in the interview.
The newspaper said McCartney was interviewed in Britain's Prospect magazine, which is published on Wednesday. McCartney's publicist Stuart Bell was not immediately available to confirm the comments.
According to the newspaper, McCartney said he believes his stance has inspired the work against African poverty carried out in recent years by Bob Geldof and U2's Bono.

Release Notes:
"It was early 1967, and The Doors were about to enter the
consciousness of the nation. And this is the way it sounded."
How cool would it have been to be there? Just hanging out at
the Matrix Club in San Francisco in the spring of 1967. Only a
handful of people showed up, so the unknown band onstage used
the time to explore new arrangements and jam on a few blues
favorites. Who knew that within weeks their single "Light My
Fire" would explode to the top of the charts in the Summer of
Love. Up until now, the only way to experience the shows were
through some sonically challenged bootlegs or through stories
passed down by the lucky few who witnessed it.
But that's all changed with the release of this set. Now you
can hear it all - fully restored and painstakingly produced by
longtime Doors engineer/producer Bruce Botnick who notes,
"This is likely the closest we've come to a true document of
The Doors without constraints."
It's loaded with over 2 hours of performances from Jim
Morrison, Ray Manzarek, John Densmore and Robby Krieger as
they cut loose with many of the songs from their debut
release, including 'Soul Kitchen," "Alabama Song (Whisky
Bar)," and their first single, "Break On Through (To The Other
Side)." Along with those originals, the band indulges in its
love of the blues with Bo Diddley's "Who Do You Love," and
Allen Toussaint's "Get Out Of My Life, Woman," which has never
appeared on any previous Doors albums. It's also a glimpse
into the band mapping out its future, with much of the second
disc exploring early versions of several songs from later
albums: "Crawling King Snake" (LA Woman), "Summer's Almost
Gone" (Waiting For The Sun), and nearly half the songs from
The Doors' second album, Strange Days.

Orgone Energy - Wilhelm Reich and the Orgone Accumulator

Warning - misuse of the Orgone Accumulator may lead to symptoms of orgone overdose. Leave the vicinity of the accumulator and call the 'Doctor' immediately!"
That would be the controversial Doctor Wilhelm Reich, father of orgone energy (also known as chi or life-energy) and the science of orgonomy. Wilhelm Reich developed a metal-lined device named the Orgone Accumulator, believing that the box trapped orgone energy that he could harness in groundbreaking approaches towards psychiatry, medicine, the social sciences, biology and weather research.
Orgone Energy
Wilhelm Reich's discovery of orgone began with his research of a physical bio-energy basis for Sigmund Freud's theories of neurosis in humans. Wilhelm Reich believed that traumatic experiences blocked the natural flow of life-energy in the body, leading to physical and mental disease. Wilhelm Reich concluded that the libidinal-energy that Freud discussed was the primordial-energy of life itself, connected to more than just sexuality. Orgone was everywhere and Reich measured this energy-in-motion over the surface of the earth. He even determined that its motion affected weather formation.

Fingerprints Can Reveal Drug Use, Medical History : Discovery News
Eric Bland, Discovery News
Packed With Info | Discovery News Video
Dec. 10, 2008 -- A careless touch could be all police or insurance companies need to determine not only your identity, but also your past drug use, if you've fired a gun or handled explosives, even specific medical conditions.
"A fingerprint is only good to identify a criminal if you already have their fingerprint on file," said David Russell, a professor at the University of East Anglia, who, along with Pompi Hazarika, helped developed the new technique, reported in the German journal, Angewandte Chemie. "This will give police new tools to help discover that identity."
For decades forensic scientists have dusted fingerprints with magnetic particles to reveal the hidden swirls and curls that differentiate each person on the planet. The iron oxide particles attach themselves to the tiny bits of water, minerals, and oils that accumulate on the fingers as they touch various objects and other parts of the body.
The new technique attaches the iron oxide particles to antibodies and suspends them both in a liquid solution, which is then drizzled over a fingerprint. If the chemical that a specific antibody targets is present, the molecules latch onto it and glow.

So far the scientists can detect five different drugs: THC (marijuana), cocaine, nicotine, methadone and a derivative of methadone. Other drugs, particularly opium-based drugs like heroine or morphine, should also be detectable, since antibodies already exist for them as well.
Drugs aren't the only chemicals the new tests could detect. Cancer, diabetes, heart disease and other medical conditions produce specific chemicals also secreted in sweat and oil. By tweaking the antibodies on the particles, forensic scientists could test for a variety of medical conditions. This could help police track down a suspect by, say, watching the local kidney dialysis clinic if the suspect has kidney failure.
On the other side, prosecutors could also use additional fingerprint information to convict criminals, or defenders could use it to help keep clients out of jail. If a fingerprint has the antibodies for, say, a genetic disease that a client doesn't have, a defender could use that information to raise doubts about the prosecutor's case.
