Pearl Jam at 18: Bigger than Taste

Never one of my favorite bands, Pearl Jam has earned my grudging (no, not grunging) respect by doing the almost-impossible and remaining, as the song says, aliiiiive. EW scribe Whitney Pastorek does a fine job here breaking down the ways that PJ defies one's ordinary impulse to dismiss or otherwise take Vedder's crew. or their mega first album, Ten, now available in a deluxe reissue, for granted after all this time. (Still hate that album cover photo, though.)

From EW Online:

I can't make a snap judgment on this! WTF are you talking about? In my possession I now have the original remastered version of Ten, a remixed version from Brendan O'Brien that includes a bunch of bonus tracks, a demo cassette, a wax paper packet of photos and stickers and ticket replicas, a composition notebook that serves as a photo album, a DVD of the band's MTV Unplugged show, and three vinyl LPs, including the 1992 Drop in the Park concert. The record sleeve for the latter depicts Vedder soaring over a flannel-drenched crowd. I spent 20 minutes staring at it last night. I also spent most of my week in Texas driving around with the O'Brien remix advance in the car stereo, and am still finding new and exciting tweaks to these songs I've known for half my life. Absorbing all of this is going to take some time. Additionally -- and perhaps more shamefully* -- I don't own a record player, and neither Best Buy nor my local music equipment store were able to sell me one this morning. (Apparently the only people still in the market for turntables are DJs, and I do not require the technology for "scratching.") So while I wait for a Craigslist transaction to go through in order to properly review this thing, I open the floor to you, M-Dubs: Who's got a copy? Who's got an opinion? Share it in the comments! And meanwhile, check out this phenomenal hip-hop cover of "Why Go," which incorporates nearly everything this post was about!

The Black Crowes - She Talks To Angels Lyrics

She never mentions the word addiction
In certain company
Yes, she'll tell you she's an orphan
After you meet her family
She paints her eyes as black as night, now
Pulls those shades down tight
Yeah, she gives a smile when the pain comes,
The pain's gonna make everything alright
Says she talks to angels,
They call her out by her name
Oh yeah, she talks to angels,
Says they call her out by her name
She keeps a lock of hair in her pocket
She wears a cross around her neck
Yes, the hair is from a little boy
And the cross is someone she has not met, not yet
Says she talks to angels,
Says they all know her name
Oh yeah, she talks to angels,
Says they call her out by her name
She don't know no lover,
None that I ever seen
Yeah, to her that ain't nothing
But to me, yeah me,
It means everything
She paints her eyes as black as night now
She pulls those shades down tight
Oh yeah, there's a smile when the pain comes,
The pain's gonna make everything alright, alright yeah
She talks to angels,
Says they call her out by her name
Oh yeah-eah-eah, angels
Call her out by her name
Oh-ooh-oh-oh angels
They call her out by her name
Oh-oh, she talks to angels
They call her out
Yeah-eah-eah, they call her out
Don't you know that they call her out by her name?

Many sites showcase people making as much as $300 a day working online from home on their computer.

Are online jobs the next big thing? For Mary Steadman it sure is. Mary, a mother from San Jose, CA is thriving, in the middle of an economic recession working in the comfort of her own home.

From her website: "I get paid about $25 for every link I post on Google and I get paid every week... I make around $5500 a month right now"

Mary's story is a very familiar one in these tough times. She lost her job as an account rep for a manufacturing company and a few days later her husband also was laid off from his job as part of cutbacks due to the bad economy.

"We knew we had to do something, so we put our heads together and started trying online job opporuntities." Mary and her husband Kevin wound up getting caught up in a few quick rich business opportunities that were nothing more than pyramid schemes before finding something that really worked.

"I realized the best thing to do is instead of hoping that a company that you are looking at is going last, why not go with a big, reputable company. After looking at several different companies, I picked the safest bet... Google."

Online giant Google is a publicly traded company and is worth an estimated $100 Billion (with a b). The company has pioneered online search and has changed the way we use the internet.

In a matter of weeks Mary and Kevin had a steady stream of income coming in via checks that were delivered to their home. They happened upon a system called "Easy Google Profit" that taught them how to make money posting links online.

Easy Google Profitis a free course that can teach anyone, regardless of computer skill level to start making money online. It's available for free at EasyGoogleProfit.com.

"We were doing pretty good and then we discovered the real trick to making money. We combined "Easy Google Profit" with another free course called "My Internet Payday" that's where we really learned the extra tricks so instead of making a couple of hundred bucks here and there we started maximizing the amount we made."

For those of you that have seen the 'scammy' sites on the internet that promise you can make millions of dollars online Mary warns that this is not the promise being made here and that most of those sites are false representations of earnings you can make.

"We never tell anyone they'll make millions of dollars, in fact I think this is the ONLY online system that says you probably WON'T make millions, but you can generate a legitimate income from home like I do that replaced my full time job."

Getting started is simple. Following these simple steps below is all you need to do to get started.

Step 1: GetEasy Google Profit, only pay the $1.00 for shipping.

Step 2: Also getMy Internet Payday. This is key. I think you pay $1.95 for shipping or something. to post. Start posting those links. Google tracks everything.

Step 3: Follow the directions on Easy Google Profit that basically shows you how to and set up a Google account. You need them both. Then they will give you the website links to post. Start posting those links. Google tracks everything.

Just a quick notice about this thing. It does work but you have to be able to use a computer at least somewhat. If you can use email, etc. then you'll be fine.

@Thomas, I'm using it now and it's working pretty well actually! I paid a dollar for shipping, got it in a few days, signed up for my Google account and have been cranking along ever since. My first week I made a whopping $288 and the second week I doubled that then it kinda snowballed to $300+ a day! I'm gonna grow this puppy as big as I can. Here's a screen shot of my Google stats, my wife is in shock.stats

Antimatter goes to the movies

Columbia Pictures

Click for video: Watch
a clip from "Angels and
Demons" that explains
how the (fictional)
antimatter bomb works.

They're making antimatter at the Large Hadron Collider?! That little jolt of reality is what sets the plot in motion for "Angels & Demons," Hollywood's follow-up to "The Da Vinci Code."

The good news is that you don't have to worry about an antimatter bomb blowing up the world. Physicist Michio Kaku says so. The better news is that the antimatter being made at Europe's CERN physics lab is used for good, not for evil.

The physicists who do real-life research with antimatter and other exotic substances see "Angels & Demons" not as a threat but as an opportunity. CERN is just one of the scientific institutions to capitalize on the "science behind the story."

The US/LHC research group has organized an entire lecture series around the movie, including virtual lectures you can watch on the Web. And at 1 p.m. ET next Tuesday, the National Science Foundation will present a Webcast featuring CERN's director-general, Fermilab's Boris Kayser and Nobel-winning physicist Leon Lederman - who literally wrote the book on "The God Particle."

R.E.M. - COUNTRY FEEDBACK LYRICS

(Berry/Buck/Mills/Stipe)
This flower is scorched
This film is on
On a maddening loop
These clothes
These clothes don't fit us right
I'm to blame
It's all the same
It's all the same
You come to me with the phone in your hand
You come to me with your hair curled tight
You come to me with positions
You come to me with excuses
Decked out out in a robe
You wear me out
You wear me out
We've been through fake-a-breakdown
Self hurt
Plastics, collections
Self help, self pain,
EST, psychics, fuck all
I was central
I had control
I lost my head
I need this
I need this
A paper weight, junk garage
Winter rain, a honey pot
Crazy, all the lovers have been tagged
A hotline, a wanted add
It's crazy what you could've had
It's crazy what you could've had
It's crazy what you could've had
I need
I need this
It's crazy what you could've had
It's crazy what you could've had
I need
I need this
It's crazy what you could've had
It's crazy what you could've had
I need
I, I need this
It's crazy what you could've had
I need this
It's crazy what you could've had
It's crazy what you could've had
I need this
I, I need this
It's crazy what you could've had
It's crazy what you could've had

David Gilmour - This Heaven lyrics

David Gilmour - This Heaven

All the pieces fall into place
When we walk these fields
And I reach out to touch your face
This earthly heaven is enough for me

So break the bread and pour the wine
I need no blessings but I'm counting mine
Life is much more than money buys
When I see the faith in my children's eyes

I've felt the power in a holy place
And wished for comfort when in need
Now I'm here in a state of grace
This earthly heaven is enough for me

So break the bread and pour the wine
I need no blessings but I'm counting mine
Life is much more than money buys
When I see the faith in my children's eyes

Reality check for ‘Star Trek’ tech - Innovation- msnbc.com

Teleportation:
a work in progress

"Beam me up, Scotty!" Oh, how easy travel would be if the technology existed to disintegrate our bodies in one place and nearly instantaneously make them reappear at our destination. Unfortunately, that kind of teleportation remains firmly fixed in the realm of “Star Trek” fiction. However, scientists are meeting with some success as they try to teleport messages encoded in beams of light across table-length distances, such as this experiment from 2002. More recent advances include teleporting information from one trapped atom to another.

Hawkwind – Out Of The Shadows DVD

From Aural Innovations #36 (May 2007)

This eighty-minute concert was filmed at the Opera House in Newcastle, UK on December 4, 2002. On thing I really like about this music DVD is that all through out the fourteen song gig, there are absolutely no interruptions of any kind. For those of you that know me or have touched base with me via email, you know that I don't have all that many music DVD's for several reasons. But, this Hawkwind DVD is without a doubt well worth having. Notice on this DVD the band covers two Bob Calvert gems, "Aerospace Age Inferno" and "The Song Of The Gremlins" where fellow stalwart UK rocker Arthur Brown takes over on the lead vocals and serves as the space rock ensemble's frontman as he does on a couple of other songs. This man can actually do the job, good. Couldn't get enough of the tracks here "Out Of The Shadows", "Master Of The Universe", "Hurry On Sundown" ( off their very first album ), the powerful "Assassins Of Allah" and "Earth Calling" ( which goes into "You Shouldn't Do That" ) in which all these cuts feature a must-see full blown psychedelic light show extravaganza. Two actual Arthur Brown tunes are performed, "Time Captives" and "Time & Confusion". Couldn't believe my eyes or ears when Alan Davey covered the old Hawkwind 'deep album cut' that Lemmy wrote, the forgotten low-key classic "The Watcher". Was nice once again to experience the Tim Blake piece "Lighthouse". For 'Sonic Space Attack", Brown comes out wearing all black attire as Davey mentions "dressed like the invisible man" where I was nearly entranced watching his performance. The final number is a wonderful take of "Silver Machine" where you get to view the appreciative audience only a few times. Great picture and sound quality. Just love DVDs like this one. Line-up: Dave Brock - guitar, keyboards & vocals, Allan Davey - bass & vocals, Richard Chadwick - drums, Huw Lloyd-Langton - guitar & vocals ( wasn't he an original member, too? ), Arthur Brown - guest vocalist and Tim Blake - keyboards & vocals. There's also an hour - long interview with founder Dave Brock where he covers such topics like playing space rock, past tours, stage set-ups, his musical roots, etc. 100% essential. Oh, the colors!

Jimmy Page & Robert Plant Wonderful One Lyrics:

Jimmy Page & Robert Plant
Wonderful One Lyrics
:

So throw it down, Cleveland rain, the queen of love has flown again
To seek her daughter who must lie beside the thief
Whose golden tongue she will believe defies the order, ohh
Ohh, that is why, ohh, that is why
Shall we dance and never stop
Take my hand and stop the clock from turning over
And spirit weave and spirit bend
In the move that has no end that we must follow
Show me your eyes, oh, light of the son
Touch me with fire, my mind is undone
All life conspire, my freedom has come
I drift through desire, my wonderful one
When you do what you do
I can never, never, never let you go
When you feel the way you feel
You can never, never, never let it show
Show me your eyes, oh, light of the son
Touch me with fire, my mind is undone
All life conspire, my freedom has come
I drift through desire, my wonderful one
So throw it down, Cleveland rain, the queen of love has flown again
To seek her daughter who must lie beneath the thief
Whose golden tongue she will believe defies the order, oh yeah yeah yeah
That is why, that is why, that is why, oh yeah, that is why
