Organisers Are Getting Ready For the Fordham Festival
13:19 - 06 June 2008

FORDHAM may seem like an unlikely place to host a festival, but Fordfest organisers and a host of well-known musical talent would disagree.
When organiser Mark stopped on his daily commute to help Doug, an unfortunate cyclist with a puncture, Doug, the seed of Fordfest was sown. Doug accepted a lift home and a shared love of music was discovered. Fordham distribution company Turners provided the field and the rest is history.
Courtesy of the Ely Standard, you could be there for the fifth Fordfest, backstage with headliners Hawkwind, Bad Manners or the Bluetones, for a three-day weekend packed full of live music.
And if that's not enough, you can also enjoy a taster session on the Thursday night before the festival, when East Cambridgeshire Rock School gives its first performance. Coached by Wilburton recording studio owner and artist Paul McGuire and Ely musician Shirley O'Riordan, young people fresh from a week-long rock school will have the chance to perform on the stage that will be occupied by Hawkwind the following day. The first band is on at 7.30pm.
To win a backstage VIP pass, just answer this simple question:
Which two charities will benefit from Fordfest 2008?
Answers on a postcard, headed Fordfest Competition, to the Ely Standard, 38 Market Street, Ely by Friday July 4, or email editor@ely-standard.co.uk writing Fordfest competition in the subject line. Entries should contain full name, address and daytime telephone number. Winners will be drawn at random after the closing date.
INFO: Fordfest runs from August 7-10 off the Fordham bypass towards Burwell. Tickets, priced from £49.50 are available from www.fordhamfest.co.uk. All proceeds go to Cam-Mind and the Teenage Cancer Trust unit at Addenbrooke's Hospital.
