Last night, Roger Waters had an in depth, and illuminating discussion with his old friend Jim Ladd on KLOS, the Los Angeles based radio station. As Jim acknowledged, Roger rarely does such interviews, and this rare opportunity didn't disappoint with Roger in fine, and candid, form.
He talked at length about the current tour, including the inclusion of Lili Haydn at the Coachella show, his thoughts on the current US political situation, and what the future holds for him (and his fans!)...
Jim quizzed him about the current tour, and mentioned the lack of material from Radio KAOS, Roger's 1987 album. Roger (rather tantalizingly) said: "I'm sure we'll come back to it - whether its to do Sunset Strip, or The Powers That Be, or... There's a lot of songs on that record that I like". He also says that whilst the intention is that DSOTM live is coming to an end, there's no reason why it shouldn't be taken back out again for a one-off occasion, should something like that occur...
Looking to the future, Roger was asked if he was working on a new studio album. "Intermittently. I've got a bunch of songs, and when I get some time something will develop. I've just come back from Brazil where we had a performance of Ca Ira, which is my opera about the French revolution. That took a lot of time, and travel, and effort..."
Refusing to be drawn on any concepts that might be running through the new material, he said: "I've got a lot of songs, and it might be that it's two albums; it might be one political album, and it might be one album that's about love. Or they might be connected. I just don't know.
"I've been spending quite a lot of time as well editing some movie I shot of the tour last summer, and that's beginning to look quite interesting. And I've been in the editing suite quite a lot working on that.
"When I get back into Logic [music software] and start working on the album, YOU will be the first to know!" he told Jim Ladd.
The tour starts Sunday night at the Coachella festival.
