ImgBurn Disc Burning Software Updated To 2.5.7.0

ImgBurn Disc Burning Software Updated To 2.5.7.0:
ImgBurn is a feature rich burning software for the Windows operating system. I have been using the software for a long time for the majority of CD and DVD related burning tasks. And while it may not be the easiest program to use, its feature-richness makes more than up for it. Plus, you get tutorials about all major features on the project homepage.
The developer has released an ImgBurn update yesterday which brings the version of the program to 2.5.7.0. It is the first update of the year, and only the third in two year’s time.

ImgBurn 2.5.7.0

Unlike the previous update which was massive in size, this one is smaller, and more of a maintenance release than one that introduces new major features to the application. Then again, if a software is already very good, there is little room for improvement left.

The ImgBurn changelog divides the changes into additions, changes and fixes. The additions are mostly new information that have been added to various pages of the program, plus support for LiteOn’s SmartErase function and a few other feature editions that are rather specialized as well.
The author of ImgBurn has changed the program’s default bugger I/O size. It is now set to 20 Megabytes on systems with less than 1 Gigabyte of RAM, 40 Megabytes on systems with less than 2 Gigabytes, and 80 Megabytes for all systems that have at least 2 Gigabytes of memory installed.
The new version fixes several program crashes and other issues with the program that the majority of users probably never came into contact with. Still, less bugs is always a good thing.
Existing ImgBurn users can check for updates right in the program interface. A click on Help > Check for ImgBurn Update takes care of that.
The update can also be downloaded from the official project website over at ImgBurn.com.

Bookmark Sentry Scans Your Chrome Bookmarks File For Bad Links and Dupes

Bookmark Sentry Scans Your Chrome Bookmarks File For Bad Links and Dupes:
Chrome: Bookmark Sentry, a free Chrome extension, takes the hard work out of checking your bookmark file for bad links and duplicates. Install it, forget about it, and get scheduled reports on the state of your bookmarks file.
It’s that simple. Once you install the extension, open the options to toggle some basic settings to your liking (like the frequency of the scan, how long you want it to wait for a response, and whether you want it to look for bad links and/or duplicates).
Once it finishes scanning you’ll get a report indicating the status of the links (why they are marked as missing or duped) and the ability to selectively or mass delete them. The only caveat we’d share is that it will tell you links behind any sort of security are unavailable. If you bookmark pages that you use for work, behind your corporate firewall for example, if the scanner runs when you’re not authenticated then it won’t be able to reach them. Other than that, it works like a charm.
Bookmark Sentry is free, Google Chrome only.

The Nimble Empire: In Defense of Cable [Cable]

The Nimble Empire: In Defense of Cable [Cable]:
One of the most fascinating stories of the last year has been the evolution of Amazon Prime. In exchange for a recurring fee, you get access to a huge, varied media library: movies, TV shows and books. And yeah, some of that content isn't all that great, and even more isn't stuff I would choose, but a lot of it is amazing. And yeah - I can't access all of that content on any device I want, but most of it I can, and the range of those devices, especially for digital video, is growing. More »

Spotify extends its unlimited free service, indefinitely

Spotify extends its unlimited free service, indefinitely: Spotify extends its unlimited free service, indefinitely Although the service was supposed to end after six months, Spotify has announced it has extended its unlimited free streaming indefinitely.

Spotify, which has different tiers, will leave the free (with advertising) service available to all customers who do not wish to purchase a premium $10 subscription. For $10 per month, the ads are removed and you can stream the service from mobile devices like phones and tablets.

The service has been very successful since its launch in 2011 in the U.S., converting 3 million of its 10 million "active users" to paying accounts.

It is unclear why Spotify has decided to extend the "honeymoon" (their word, not mine) but many speculate it is because they have advertisers lining up due to their popularity.

Spotify takes Facebook's Timeline feature to insane extremes:

Worried that Facebook's new Timeline feature is going to offer up too much information? Don't worry, whatever roller coaster ride your relationship status updates might be, you've got nothing on Spotify. The music streamer is offering up 1,000-odd years of music history on its Facebook page, reaching back to 1,000AD, which was apparently a big year for organum lovers.

The lightning rod hasn't exactly needed improvement since its inception by Ben Franklin in 1749, but that isn't stopping a French research team's efforts to replace the charge-catching metal poles with frickin' lasers. More »
